resolutions are for bitches

January 4th, 2010 at 6:06 pm . Posted in 2010 .

Alright now that 2009 is behind me, I think it’s time for some 2010 goals. Not resolutions because much like rules, they are just meant to be broken.

  • Career: more writing gigs, continue looking for a job in what I want to do and go back to school whether it’s part-time, online, nights, weekends or whatever.
  • Mind: continue to take care of my emotional health. No need for people who bring me down, talk negatively or have no respect for me. I’m focusing on keep positive people in my life. I spent way too much of 2009 worrying, anxious or feeling hurt. Those are the last things I need and won’t tolerate it anymore. Rising above, dude.
  • Body: get my weight and body image in order. I’m not allowed to complain about it if I’m not being proactive anymore. Eat more veggies, stop with the Pepsi once and for all and possibly cut out red meat (I KNOW, RIGHT?).
  • Random: wear more dresses. Go see more live rock shows. Volunteer. Go out at every opportunity. Spoil myself. Step outside of my comfort zone. Send actual mail via post. Curse less even though I already failed with this title. Reach out to others. Say yes more. Continue to wear pink on Wednesdays.

Read more. Laugh more. Write more. Travel more. Learn more. Love more. And most importantly–

DO EPIC SHIT.

Your “Mind” resolutions? Well, Jamie… ME FUCKING TOO. 3am, New Year’s morning, all this negativity from negative people came to a head and I realized: I DON’T HAVE ROOM IN MY LIFE FOR SHIT THAT IS NOT AWESOME. And, Honey, you don’t either. Cheers to 2010. Let’s do this together.

I think ‘Do Epic Shit’ should be all of our mantras for 2010. I like your goal of sending more proper mail, too. I’m aiming to send a postcard a day for a whole year in 2010. So far, I haven’t failed. But its only five days in.

“I’m not allowed to complain about it if I’m not being proactive anymore.”
    THIS TIMES A BILLION.

I really, really wish that my roommate would make that resolution. Oh the amount of time she whines over her appearance (esp. weight) to me and I’m like “DUDE, DO SOMETHING!” But I can’t really say that all that often or it’s rude. Only sometimes. Because then I’m only a little bit rude.

    [Reply]

    Jamie Reply:

@gem, I’ve done my share of doing nothing. The only way it’s going to happen is if I shut up and DO IT. Sometimes we need a little bit rude to get it through our heads haha

Up until I met my husband in May of 2008, I was a 7-year vegetarian. After tasting steak, there is NO WAY I could turn my back from it. GOOD LUCK, DUDE.

Also, I am with you on the weight thing, which is why I let that bitch Jillian work her magic on me last night and now I feel like shit. But in a good way.

I keep reading people’s resolutions & saying to myself, “Oh, another good one. Add that to the imaginary list!” I’m afraid this whole first time resolution thing may backfire on me. We’ll see. I’ll either end up really awesome, or just partially awesome. How can that be bad, right?

we feel the same re: resolutions. goals are much easier to get over when you fuck ‘em up. resolutions? not. because then everyone’s all… “so… did you do epic shit today?” wading around in guilt is not my idea of *fun*. so, i like goals.

I cut out red meat, go me! Makes me sick anyway. Oh, and I didn’t really make any resolutions because then I feel like crap when I don’t keep them. I only swore to make 2010 better than 2009 because um, 2009? Yeah, it sucked.

    Good luck Jamie! :)

These are some pretty awesome goals! Cutting out red meat is not a bad idea, and it’s not all that hard. I’ve started using ground turkey instead of ground beef (for tacos, spaghetti, etc) and chicken for everything! Some healthy snacks I’ve discovered that I love so far this year, in my attempt to eat healthier are: yogurt, apples & (all natural) peanut butter, and cheese & triscuits. I’m actually finding that I like this stuff better than the junk, and it makes me feel a whole lot better too!

I also love your goals to go out at every opportunity and step out of your comfort zone. Sometimes these things can be hard to do, but they really make you feel like you are living. Wonderful!
